Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has taken decisive action by dismissing two senior aides embroiled in separate scandals involving the controversial bail of a suspected drug baron and the diversion of government palliatives intended for vulnerable citizens.
The Secretary to the State Government, Umar Farouk, confirmed the immediate removal of Abubakar Umar Sharada, Senior Special Assistant on Political Mobilisation, and Tasiu Adamu Al’amin Roba, Senior Special Assistant in the Cabinet Office, following their indictment by investigative panels.
Abubakar Sharada was found to have played a central role in securing the bail of Sulaiman Aminu Danwawu, an alleged drug kingpin. A special committee established that Sharada masterminded the suspect’s release, with his own testimony before the panel confirming his involvement.
“The Governor approved the dismissal of Abubakar Umar Sharada after the committee indicted him as the mastermind of the bail of a dangerous drug baron,” the SSG’s office stated. Sharada has been instructed to surrender all government property in his possession and is prohibited from further representing the administration.
In a separate case, Tasiu Roba was arrested and subsequently charged for his role in the illegal repackaging and diversion of food palliatives stored at a Sharada warehouse in 2024.
The stolen grains, meant for distribution to the poor, were allegedly rebagged for resale. “Tasiu Adamu Al’amin Roba was relieved of his appointment following his arrest for rebagging palliative grains,” the government’s statement read. “He is currently facing charges of theft and criminal conspiracy.” Roba has similarly been ordered to return all official items and cease presenting himself as a government official.
Amid these dismissals, the state government cleared Musa Ado Tsamiya, Special Adviser on Drainages, of any wrongdoing after an investigative committee found no evidence of misconduct. Governor Yusuf reiterated his administration’s uncompromising stance against corruption, warning all public office holders to adhere strictly to ethical standards.
“The Governor reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to discipline, transparency, and zero tolerance for corruption,” the statement emphasised. The public has been advised against engaging with the dismissed officials on any government-related matters.
This crackdown follows the recent resignation of Ibrahim Namadi, the state’s Commissioner for Transportation, who was also implicated in the drug baron bail scandal. The governor’s swift actions underscore his determination to root out malpractice and restore public confidence in his government’s integrity.
