The manager of a popular hotel in Delta State has confessed to the brutal murder of 22-year-old Point-of-Sale (POS) operator, Onoriode Bethel, who had been missing since December 2024.
The suspect, identified as Iboirode, manager of Century Home Hotel in Owhelogbo, Delta State, allegedly lured Bethel to the hotel under the pretense of resolving a financial dispute.
According to a statement by Delta State Police spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, Iboirode murdered Bethel in cold blood and buried her body within the hotel premises.
Edafe confirmed that the incident followed a disagreement after Bethel accused Iboirode of fraudulently withdrawing N10,000 from her account using a fake bank alert. Although the money was later recovered, the suspect reportedly felt humiliated and sought revenge.
“The suspect murdered Bethel and buried her body on the hotel premises,” Edafe stated, describing the crime as a chilling example of premeditated violence.
The case took a disturbing twist when Iboirode’s wife confessed to being aware of the murder. She recounted how her husband lured Bethel to the hotel, introducing her as a friend. Later that night, he emerged from the room and admitted to his wife that he had killed Bethel.
Shockingly, Iboirode went further to use Bethel’s mobile phone to contact her father, demanding a ransom. He also forced Bethel to reveal her POS password, which he used to withdraw funds before ultimately ending her life.
Bethel’s remains were eventually recovered, bringing closure to the months-long mystery surrounding her disappearance. The breakthrough came after Iboirode’s arrest in March 2025 for an unrelated murder case, during which he confessed to killing Bethel.
