Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori has approved a pay rise of N200,000 across board for the monthly salaries of Medical doctors working in state.
He also granted a N100,000 tax-free allowance for house officers.
State Commissioner for Health, Joseph Onojaeme disclosed this in a media briefing held with newsmen in Asaba, the state capital.
Onojaeme explained that the new structure will move the salary of entry-level doctors from ₦370,000 to ₦570,000, while house officers will now earn above ₦350,000 instead of the previous amount, slightly above ₦250,000.
He added that he extra allowance is part of what the government calls the MORE Special Allowance.
Reliable sources said the decision was part of a broader plan to recruit over 700 health workers to strengthen the state healthcare services.
At the moment, Spear News gathered that about 6,000 job seekers applied but the new pay package will go a long way to motivate and, attract more qualified doctors to fill the job openings in the state health system.
