Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has dismissed claims that he is under pressure to defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), amid growing political speculation over his future.
The governor made this known on Wednesday shortly after presiding over the swearing-in of 17 newly appointed Permanent Secretaries at the Government House in Bauchi.
Addressing journalists, Mohammed neither confirmed nor denied reports suggesting he may leave the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), but acknowledged the increasing attention surrounding his political stance.
“I find it interesting that even without any official statement from me, people are already drawing conclusions. It shows the level of relevance and attention we command. Suddenly, I have become a global personality,” he said.
The governor maintained a measured stance, noting that discussions about his political future have continued to gain momentum both within and outside the state, despite his silence on the issue.
While political analysts interpret his comments as a calculated move, Mohammed assured that he would address the matter comprehensively at the appropriate time.
“There will be a time to speak fully on this. I will do so during a media chat by 7 pm on Channels Television,” he added, stressing his intention not to reduce the issue to a purely local matter.
In recent weeks, Mohammed—considered a key figure within the PDP—has been at the centre of intense political speculation, with reports suggesting he may be weighing his options ahead of possible political realignments.
Observers believe his continued silence is fueling public curiosity, given his influence within the opposition and his perceived national political relevance.
Meanwhile, the swearing-in of the 17 Permanent Secretaries forms part of the administration’s broader effort to strengthen governance and improve service delivery across ministries in the state.
Mohammed charged the newly appointed officials to uphold integrity, professionalism, and accountability in the discharge of their duties.
