Aliko Dangote, the president of the Dangote Group, has agreed to fully fund a 250-bed hostel project at the University of Ilorin, which is being developed by the Ilorin Central Jumma’at Mosque. The project is valued at ₦1.1 billion.
The mosque’s management confirmed that Dangote has formally communicated his decision to finance the entire cost of the ultramodern student accommodation. The initiative was originally launched by the mosque to generate rental income that would be used for its maintenance and upkeep.
Shehu AbdulGafar, secretary of the mosque’s Board of Trustees, disclosed this during a press conference in Ilorin on Sunday. He also mentioned that a Memorandum of Understanding had already been signed with the University of Ilorin regarding the project.
According to the agreement, the mosque will own and manage the hostel for 21 years, after which ownership will be transferred to the university.
In addition to funding the hostel, Dangote has also pledged a monthly donation of ₦5 million to support the mosque’s regular maintenance until the project is completed. These payments reportedly began last month.
AbdulGafar stated that Dangote’s support would greatly contribute to the sustainability of the mosque’s operations while also providing modern accommodation for students of the university.
