…Accuses Deputy National Chair of “cooking up” results
The Kano State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has rejected the outcome of the party’s presidential primary election in the state, accusing the Deputy National Chairman (North), Hajia Najja’atu Mohammed, of hijacking the electoral process and fabricating results.
In a petition addressed to the Chairman of the Kano State Primary Appeals Committee, the party’s state leadership alleged that electoral materials meant for the exercise were diverted from the approved venue to the residence of Hajia Najja’atu, where results of an election that “never took place” were subsequently cooked up.
The petition, co-signed by the Kano State Chairman of the party, Musa Shuaibu Ungogo, and the party’s Secretary, Dr Bala Inuwa Takai, expressed disappointment over what it described as a sudden change in attitude by the national electoral committee assigned to supervise the exercise.
“It is quite unfortunate to state that a national officer, for that matter the Deputy National Chairman (North), Hajia Najja’atu, and some other persons unknown to the party and the electoral committee sent by the national headquarters colluded to divert the electoral materials and went to the residence of Hajia Najja’atu to cook up supposed results of an election that never took place,” the petition read in part.
The Kano ADC leadership maintained that party primaries are usually conducted jointly by the state structure and electoral committees deployed from the national headquarters to ensure transparency and fairness.
The party said the alleged actions undermined internal democracy and denied aspirants a level playing field.
Consequently, the state chapter called on the appeals committee and the party’s national leadership to disregard the presidential primary results announced in Kano State. The petition also demanded the immediate conduct of a fresh presidential primary election across the state.
The party further urged the national leadership to investigate and sanction those allegedly involved in the incident to prevent a recurrence.
Copies of the petition were also forwarded to the party’s National Chairman, National Secretary, and National Organising Secretary.
