The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has issued a direct charge to frontline troops in Sokoto State, ordering them to sustain their operational momentum and decisively eliminate bandits and terrorists plaguing the region.
The Army Chief gave the order on Friday, December 27, 2025, during an operational visit to the 248 Reconnaissance Battalion in Illela, Sokoto State just hours after a US-Nigeria joint airstrikes on Christmas Day.
He addressed troops of the 8 Division and the Joint Task Force, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, operating within the division’s Area of Responsibility.
Commending the soldiers for their recent successes, Lt. Gen. Shaibu praised their gallantry and professionalism, which he said had significantly improved security in the area. He emphasized that the current gains must not be lost.
āI commend you for your courage, professionalism and the operational successes recorded so far. Your sacrifices have translated into improved security in your Area of Responsibility,ā the COAS stated.
He then delivered a stern directive: āYou must maintain the momentum to further annihilate and send the terrorists to their maker who is to decide what to do with them. We can no longer tolerate their excesses against the Nigerian people.ā
In a move to bolster troop morale and effectiveness, the COAS also announced concrete measures to improve welfare. He directed the immediate construction of additional accommodation blocks, medical facilities, and other essential amenities at the Illela Barracks.
