The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, has officially resigned from his position in President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet to pursue his political ambition of becoming governor of Bauchi State.
His resignation was confirmed on Monday in a brief statement by the ministry’s spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa.
“The resignation of the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs is confirmed,” Ebienfa said.
Tuggar’s decision aligns with earlier reports that he was among four ministers expected to resign from the president’s cabinet to focus on their political aspirations ahead of the 2027 elections.
The Special Adviser to the Minister on Media and Communications Strategy, Alkasim Abdulkadir, had previously confirmed Tuggar’s interest in the Bauchi State governorship race.
“The minister is interested and aspires to run for the governorship seat of Bauchi State,” Abdulkadir had stated.
When asked about the timing of the resignation, Abdulkadir noted that the minister would adhere to the timetable and regulations set by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for political aspirants.
Tuggar, a native of Udubo in Gamawa Local Government Area of Bauchi State, has contested for the governorship position before. His resignation now allows him to fully commit to his campaign.
