The political landscape in Zamfara State shifted significantly today as six members of the State House of Assembly officially defected from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The defection was announced on the floor of the House during Thursday’s plenary session. The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Bilyaminu Moriki, read the official letters of defection signed by the six lawmakers, citing internal party divisions and a need to align with the state and federal government’s development agenda as their primary reasons for crossing the aisle.
The affected members are: Hon. Bashar Aliyu Gummi (Gummi 1 constituency), Hon. Nasiru Abdullahi Maru (Maru North), Barr. Bashir Abubakar Masama (Bukkuyum North), Hon. Bashir Bello (Bungudu West), Hon. Amiru Ahmad Keta (Tsafe West), and Hon. Muktar Nasir Kaura (Kaura North).
This move is seen as a major boost for the ruling APC, which further consolidates its majority in the state assembly. It also deals a significant blow to the PDP’s strength and influence in the legislative chamber.
