The Nigerian Exchange (NGX) recorded a historic milestone on Friday, as the total equity market capitalisation crossed the N162 trillion mark for the first time ever.
The market closed the trading week on a strongly bullish note, with the benchmark market cap settling at N162.16 trillion, up from N159.89 trillion recorded at the close of business on Thursday.
The surge represents a gain of about N2.27 trillion in a single trading session.
Investor activity was equally robust, with a total of 525,991,720 shares changing hands across 44,239 deals, reflecting heightened participation across the market.
Market analysts attributed the record-breaking performance to renewed confidence among investors, sustained buying interest in large-cap stocks, and a favourable macroeconomic backdrop.
