United States President Donald Trump has announced an immediate ban on three major news organisations from covering the White House, accusing them of persistently publishing what he described as fabricated reports.
In a post on his Truth Social platform on Friday, Trump named CNN, MS NOW and Politico as the outlets affected by the directive, which he said takes effect at once.
The President alleged that the three organisations have repeatedly put out what he called “fiction and lies” in their coverage of his administration and the country.
He further claimed that Politico received an $8 million government subscription deal under his predecessor, Joe Biden, describing the arrangement as corrupt and an all-time record.
“Media outlets shouldn’t be able to constantly write or report fiction and lies when they’re covering the President of the United States, the Trump Administration, or the United States of America,” Trump wrote.
The President hinted that more newsrooms could face similar restrictions, stating that other outlets would follow.
The announcement marks a fresh escalation in the long-running tension between Trump and sections of the American press, raising fresh questions about press freedom and access to the White House.
CNN, MS NOW and Politico have not yet issued official responses to the ban as of the time of filing this report.
