The Minister of Defence, Alhaji Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, has resigned from office.
His resignation, which took immediate effect on Monday, was confirmed by the Presidency.
In a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, it was disclosed that the minister stepped down for health-related reasons.
โThe President has accepted the resignation of the Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru. The minister resigned on health grounds,โ the statement read in part.
President Bola Tinubu expressed his appreciation for Badaruโs service to the nation and wished him a swift recovery.
Badaru, the former Governor of Jigawa State, was appointed Minister of Defence in August 2023. His tenure saw continued operations against terrorism, banditry, and other security challenges across the country.
No immediate replacement has been announced.
