The Cross River State Government has officially cancelled the cattle movement permit previously granted to the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association, effectively halting the planned transit of herds from Ebonyi State through Cross River to Cameroon.
The announcement was made on Saturday by the Honourable Commissioner of the Ministry of Livestock, Aquaculture and Fisheries Development, Ntufam Emmanuel Anom, acting on behalf of the state government.
In a terse press release obtained by SPEAR NEWS, the commissioner stated that the cancellation “supersedes the previously issued permit,” without providing specific reasons for the sudden reversal of the earlier authorisation.
The state government has directed all security agencies to enforce the order vigilantly and prevent any such cattle movement through Cross River State territory.
The now cancelled permit would have allowed the movement of cattle from Ebonyi State through Cross River State – a key transit route – into neighbouring Cameroon.
The sudden policy reversal comes amid ongoing national conversations about interstate cattle movement, cross-border trade, and security concerns related to livestock migration.
Security agencies operating in Cross River State have been alerted to ensure compliance with the directive, though operational details of the enforcement measures remain undisclosed.
