The Bauchi State Government has ordered the immediate closure of all schools across the state following rising security concerns that officials say pose a threat to students, teachers, and educational communities. The directive affects all primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions, including Federal Government-owned schools and privately run establishments.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Information and Public Relations Officer of the Bauchi State Ministry of Education, Jalaludeen Usman (ANIPR), said the decision was reached after extensive consultations with security agencies and key stakeholders. He described the move as a difficult but necessary step to safeguard lives.
According to the statement, the government acknowledged the inconvenience the closure may cause but emphasized that the safety of children remains its top priority. “Every student in Bauchi State deserves to learn in an environment that is safe, stable, and free of fear,” the government noted.
Parents, guardians, and school proprietors have been urged to remain calm and cooperative as authorities work to resolve the concerns that prompted the shutdown. The government assured that it is collaborating closely with security agencies to restore normalcy and reopen schools once it is deemed safe.
Residents were also encouraged to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activity to security operatives. “If you see something, say something,” the statement read, underscoring the importance of public participation in maintaining safety.
The Bauchi State Government has pledged to provide continuous updates as the situation unfolds.
