Bauchi Police Rescue Kidnapped Four-Year-Old, Arrest Two Suspects

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the alleged kidnapping of a four-year-old boy and successfully rescued the victim unharmed following a swift intelligence-driven operation.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, the breakthrough followed a complaint lodged by the child’s father, a resident of Gida Dubu Housing Estate in Bauchi, who reported that his son had been abducted from the front of their residence.

Police investigations revealed that the incident occurred on June 9, 2026, when one of the suspects, identified as Muhammad Usman, allegedly lured the child away from his family home and subsequently took him to the residence of a second suspect, Hayatudeen Ahmad, within the same estate.

The Command disclosed that Usman allegedly misled Ahmad by claiming that the child was his nephew and that the boy’s mother was critically ill. He reportedly persuaded Ahmad to allow the child to stay overnight, promising to take him to Kano the following day.

Further findings indicated that the prime suspect later dropped a ransom note at the victim’s family residence, demanding N5 million for the child’s release and providing a telephone number through which the payment was to be arranged.

Upon receiving the complaint, detectives from the State Intelligence Department launched an intensive investigation, traced the suspects, and raided the residence where the child was being kept.

The victim was rescued alive and in good health and has since been reunited with his family.

The two suspects are currently in police custody while investigations continue to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident. The Police Command said they would be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation.

Commending the operatives for their professionalism and prompt action, the Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state.

He warned that individuals involved in kidnapping and other criminal activities would face the full weight of the law.

The Commissioner also urged parents and guardians to educate their children about the dangers of interacting with strangers and to promptly report any suspicious movements or activities to security agencies.

The incident underscores the growing importance of vigilance and community cooperation in combating crime and ensuring the safety of children and other vulnerable members of society.
