Human rights activist Aisha Yesufu has warned that supporters of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar are inadvertently working in favour of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) by launching sustained attacks on Peter Obi’s camp.
Yesufu made the accusation in a post on her verified X account on Tuesday evening, appealing directly to the 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to call his loyalists to order.
“An appeal to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to call his supporters to order. They have been on a rampage on social media attacking supporters of Mr Peter Obi. I have been one of their targets,” she wrote.
The activist, a prominent backer of Obi’s 2023 presidential bid, accused Atiku’s supporters—who she noted now align with the African Democratic Congress (ADC)—of orchestrating coordinated online harassment against supporters of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate.
She expressed disappointment at the hostility, stressing that she expected greater political restraint given her prior political affiliation with Atiku on the same platform.
“The opposition cannot afford to fight itself while the APC watches and benefits. Every attack on Peter Obi’s supporters is a distraction from the real target—President Bola Tinubu and his administration,” Yesufu argued.
Her intervention underscores growing friction within opposition ranks less than two years before the 2027 general election. Despite both camps presenting themselves as alternatives to the APC, public disagreements over candidates, alliances, and strategy have increasingly played out on social media.
Yesufu urged opposition figures and their followers to redirect their energy toward uniting against the ruling party rather than engaging in internal hostilities.
“Call your supporters to order. We should be campaigning to remove Tinubu, not tearing each other apart,” she wrote.
The warning comes as opposition parties intensify preparations for 2027, with the rivalry between Atiku and Obi loyalists emerging as a significant fault line that could undermine any potential coalition against the APC.
