The Coalition for Goodluck Jonathan 2027 has declared former President Goodluck Jonathan as the most qualified and experienced leader capable of addressing Nigeria’s current challenges, as it confirmed moves to position him for the 2027 presidential election.
Speaking at an international press conference, yesterday in Abuja, the president of the coalition, Tom Ohikere, said the group is mobilising support across Nigeria and the diaspora to facilitate Jonathan’s return to national leadership.
The coalition criticised remarks by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar questioning Jonathan’s experience, describing them as inaccurate and inconsistent with his track record in public service.
Ohikere argued that Jonathan’s rise through various leadership positions—from deputy governor to governor, vice president, and ultimately president—reflects a broad and tested governance experience.
He further noted that Jonathan’s peaceful transfer of power in 2015 remains a landmark in Nigeria’s democratic history and a testament to his commitment to constitutional order.
The coalition said it has begun consultations with stakeholders and political groups nationwide, with plans to intensify grassroots mobilisation and advocacy ahead of the 2027 general elections.
It urged Nigerians to reflect on past and present leadership experiences and make informed decisions about the country’s future.
“Support for Goodluck Jonathan represents a step toward restoring confidence, stability, and direction in Nigeria,” Ohikere said.
