In a decisive military operation, Nigerian Army troops ambushed and routed a gang of kidnappers, securing the safe rescue of ten hostages and recovering a significant cache of arms and ransom money in Kaduna State.
The operation, conducted by Sector 5 of Operation PEACE SHIELD, was launched in response to the abduction of several women from their farms at Ungwan Nungu in Sanga Local Government Area on November 29, 2025. Following the incident, troops initiated an intense search-and-rescue mission to track the criminals and their captives.

The breakthrough came at approximately 6:40 a.m. on December 5, 2025. Intelligence led the troops to the kidnappers’ location as they were attempting to collect ransom money from the victims’ families. The soldiers sprung a well-coordinated ambush, engaging the criminals with superior firepower. The fierce confrontation forced the kidnappers to abandon their hostages and flee in disarray into the surrounding forests.
All ten rescued individuals—comprising one adult male, three male children, three elderly women, and three female children—were recovered unharmed. They have since undergone debriefing and have been joyfully reunited with their families, bringing immense relief to the traumatised community.
The troops secured substantial evidence from the scene, including:
· One fabricated AK-47 rifle
· One round of 9mm ammunition
· The sum of ₦1,600,000 (One Million, Six Hundred Thousand Naira), confirmed to be part of the ransom payment.
The Nigerian Army, in a statement, reiterated its unwavering commitment to protecting citizens and dismantling criminal networks. The successful ambush underscores the military’s resolve to deny kidnappers and other threats any freedom of action, ensuring communities across the nation can live in peace and security.
