The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has moved to draw a sharp line between itself and the political movement led by former Anambra State governor, Mr. Peter Obi, accusing him of a long-running campaign to destroy the party that launched his political career.
In a statement issued on signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Mazi Ejimofor Opara, the party reaffirmed its support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and warned its members against being swayed by what it described as Mr. Obi’s deception ahead of the next electoral cycle.
The statement, titled “A Betrayal Alert for Ndi APGA,” opened with a series of rhetorical questions directed at Mr. Obi, asking why he has opposed APGA in every election cycle despite his history with the party. “APGA made Peter Obi, yet Peter Obi wants to destroy APGA,” the party said, alleging that he has fielded candidates against APGA in every contest it enters.
APGA alleged that since 2014, Mr. Obi has pursued a single mission of destroying the party, claiming that in 2025 he backed opposition forces against APGA while President Tinubu stood with the party. It said the same pattern played out in 2017 and 2021.
The party stated categorically that a vote for Mr. Obi and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) would amount to killing APGA, describing the NDC as a “Special Purpose Vehicle” rather than a genuine political party. It insisted there is no formal or informal power-sharing agreement between APGA and the NDC.
Turning to its relationship with the presidency, APGA said its support for President Tinubu rests not only on the convention that parties collaborate with the party at the centre, but on what it called the President’s unprecedented infrastructural development of the Southeast since Nigeria’s return to democracy in 1999. The party described this as factual and verifiable.
APGA urged its members to reject Mr. Obi’s overtures, accusing him of abandoning the party when it needed him most and of treating political parties as vehicles to be used and discarded at will.
The party closed by reasserting its dominance in Anambra State, declaring that “Anambra is APGA” and vowing to defend what it called its fortress.
