.. Reserves comment on Atiku’s plans to join party
The National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Shehu Gabam, says top political dignitaries, including Senators from APC, PDP and other political parties are joining the party in droves from every state across Nigeria.
Gabam made the revelation yesterday when he appeared on Channels Television’s Politics Today programming monitored by Spear News, though refused to mention names when asked to.
Gabam said that the party which recently welcomed former Kaduna State governor, Nasir el-Rufai into its folds from the All Progressives Congress (APC) was open to welcome more of such personality.
“Virtually every day we receive decampees to SDP, every state of the federation including today. I received some today in my office, these are dignitaries.
“If you google you will see there are over 300 resignation letters from VIPs, some of them were Senators, some of them were Ministers that are joining the party,” Gabam said on the programme.
According to Gabam, the SDP mission is to unseat the current government of APC when another election is conducted in 2027.
“I am a leader of a political party; my mission is to take over the government, the mission of APC is to retain power, the mission of PDP is to take over power,” Gabam said in reply to whether his party wants to take over power from the APC.
The SDP Chairman expressed confidence in the possibilities of his dislodging the ruling APC, because the government has continued to pay deaf ears to the feelings of the people, therefore risks losing the election in 2027.
Gabam said that President Bola Tinubu’s perceived political brilliance is not enough to guarantee APC victory in the 2027 election.
“Anyone can lose the election; it’s not about individual brilliance or strategy. If there is brilliance, if there is efficacy in power, they wouldn’t have been making the mistakes they are making today.
“We believe that there are surplus of talents untapped that can deliver leadership in Nigeria, no individual has monopoly of quality of leadership that is not available anywhere else,” he added.
Meanwhile, when asked if former vice president Atiku is joining the SDP, he said when the time is right.
