The All Progressives Congress (APC) has generated a total of one hundred and twenty million naira (N120,000,000) from the sale of expression of interest and nomination forms to four aspirants seeking its ticket for the upcoming Ekiti State governorship election.
According to party sources within the Finance Directorate at the APC national headquarters in Abuja, the revenue was realised from two male aspirants who paid fifty million naira (N50,000,000) each, and two female aspirants who paid ten million naira (N10,000,000) each.
The breakdown indicates that each aspirant was required to pay forty million naira (N40,000,000) for the nomination form and ten million naira (N10,000,000) for the expression of interest form. In line with the party’s inclusivity policy for women, the female aspirants were exempted from the nomination form fee but paid the mandatory ten million naira for the expression of interest form.
The four aspirants in the race include the incumbent governor, Biodun Oyebanji, whose forms were purchased by members of the Ekiti State University Alumni Association; human rights activist and politician, Abimbola Olajumoke; Kayode Ojo, the pro-chancellor of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka; and Mrs. Omolayo Oluremi.
The sale of nomination and expression of interest forms for the governorship position closed on September 2, while the last day for submission of completed forms is scheduled for tomorrow. The party has set October 27 as the date for its primary election to select its flag bearer.
Governor Oyebanji, who was the first to obtain the forms, is expected to submit his completed documents today by 2pm at the party’s headquarters in Abuja. A large, fully air-conditioned tent has been erected at the Blantyre Street facility for the ceremony.
Sources close to the governor indicated that he will be accompanied by major stakeholders from the state, including members of the executive council, traditional rulers, religious leaders, student representatives, market women, and artisans for the form submission ceremony.
