There is a growing unrest in the Nanka community of Orumba council area of Anambra State as a vigilante officer, Chimuche Onyeanuna was allegedly nabbed raping a 13-year-old school girl.
Presently, Spear News Nigeria gathered that the suspect is yet, held in a secret location as some community leaders and local security actors are said to be in a high-stake negotiation on how to cover-up the alleged crime and, offer him a “soft landing.”
Eye witness account told Spear News Nigeria that the victim is a junior secondary school student and, daughter a man identified as Mr. Solomon Obodoaku, a commercial tricycle (Keke Napep) operator.
As his daughter’s whereabouts remained unknown for days, Obodoaku, a reliable source said, unsuspectingly reported the matter to the vigilante office and, even directly to Onyeanuna , the suspect.
Yet, Onyeanuna reportedly joined the community’s search team to rescue the missing girl whom he
held captive inside his residence.
But insider sources said as pressure mounted within the village, the suspect became afraid and freed the teenager, ordering her to go back home.
When grilled on her return, the victim disclosed her ordeal to her distraught father who made it public.
The victim said, “Onyeanuna took me to his house and locked me inside for five days. He didn’t allow me to go outside or school but always sexing me”.
To corroborate her claims, the minor gave a precise details of the vigilante officer’s room, the layout of his kitchen, items hidden under his bed, and insisted her personal belongings were still in her abductor’s room.
Furthermore, she revealed that the very dresses she wore home were provided by the suspect.
It was upon the provided information that the other vigilante operatives arrested the suspect.
But during a preliminary investigation, Spear News Nigeria was told that the suspect roundly denied his culpability until he was confronted with the victim’s blow by blow statement against him.
When contacted, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Oko Police Station said he was unaware but vowed to take appropriate actions.
But Human rights groups and community youth leaders are now calling on the Anambra State Commissioner of Police and the State Ministry of Women and Social Welfare to intervene for justice.
