President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo following the Supreme Court’s affirmation of his electoral victory, while urging him to dedicate his energy to delivering good governance for the people of Edo State.
The President’s message comes after the apex court upheld Governor Okpebholo’s election today, bringing finality to the legal battles stemming from the September 2024 governorship poll.
“President Bola Tinubu congratulates Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State on the affirmation of his election by the Supreme Court,” read a statement from the Statehouse by Bayo Onanuga.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had initially declared Okpebholo, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as winner of the keenly contested election.
With the legal battles now concluded, President Tinubu called on the governor to unite Edo residents behind a common development agenda.
“President Tinubu encourages Governor Okpebholo to be magnanimous in victory and rally the citizens of Edo across divides towards a singular vision of advancing the state’s development,” the statement continued.
The President emphasised that the judicial confirmation presents an opportunity for accelerated progress.
“The President advises that now that the governor has cleared the legal hurdles, it is time for him to accelerate the delivery of exceptional services and good governance to the people of Edo State, which he has already begun to do.”
Tinubu also extended congratulations to the APC leadership in Edo State, recognising their role in securing the electoral mandate. “President Tinubu also congratulates the leadership and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State and calls for cohesion and dedication in effectively discharging the mandate given by the people.”
Governor Okpebholo, who was present at the Supreme Court for the judgment, has pledged to focus on infrastructure development, education reform and job creation – key pillars of his campaign promises.
