Governor Ademola Adeleke has thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the peaceful conduct of Saturday’s Osun State governorship election, moments after he was declared winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission
Speaking from his residence in Ede shortly after the Returning Officer announced his victory, Adeleke expressed gratitude to the President for ensuring a hitch-free electoral process
“I want to use this opportunity to thank Mr President. President has called me and congratulated me”, Governor Adeleke said.
The Governor also commended INEC for the seamless collation and uploading of results, as well as security agencies for maintaining peace across the state
Adeleke polled 511,067 votes to defeat his closest rival, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress, who secured 444,811 votes
The incumbent governor won in 19 of the state’s 30 local government areas, while the APC candidate clinched 11
In his victory speech from his home, Adeleke thanked Osun voters for the confidence they reposed in him, dedicating the win to the people of the state and promising to continue the development projects he started in his first term
He also called on his opponents to join hands with him to move the state forward, saying the election was not a war but a contest of ideas
The declaration brings to an end the collation process which began after voting closed across the state on Saturday
