The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has issued a stern warning to its members in Adamawa State, stating it will not tolerate indiscipline or actions that undermine party unity.
The warning comes in response to what the party’s national headquarters described as a “growing division in the ranks of the party leadership” within the state chapter.
In an official statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party expressed concern over the infighting and moved to clarify the legitimate leadership. The statement confirmed that a process supervised by the National Vice Chairman for the North East on Saturday, 25 October, which produced Barrister Sadiq Dasin as the Interim Chairman, was the valid one.
This appointment, the party explained, followed the earlier approval of the National Working Committee (NWC) at its meeting on 8 October for Interim Executive Committees to be formed to manage state-level affairs for the time being.
“After due investigations,” the statement read, “the party considers the Saturday, October 25, process supervised by the National Vice Chairman for the North East, which produced Barrister Sadiq Dasin as the interim party chairman in Adamawa State, to be in line with the NWC approval and guidelines.”
With Barrister Dasin’s leadership officially recognised, the ADC has now called on all members involved in what it terms “parallel arrangements” to end their separate activities.
“In view of the foregoing, the party wishes to encourage all party members who have involved themselves in a separate arrangement to have a rethink and follow the path of reconciliation,” the statement urged.
In a simultaneous appeal for unity, the party also encouraged “the new interim chairman to extend the hand of fellowship to all and address genuine grievances.”
While emphasising its commitment to resolving members’ concerns, the ADC concluded with a firm ultimatum, making its position on internal disorder unequivocally clear.
“The party would like to restate its commitment to fairness and justice to all members, as well as its readiness to address genuine concerns,” the statement said. “The party will, however, not tolerate any act of indiscipline that is likely to jeopardise ongoing efforts to build a strong and truly democratic party.”
