The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has issued a strong rebuttal against what it terms “fake news,” clarifying that the Federal High Court in Abuja did not issue any order restraining its newly appointed national leaders, Senator David Mark and Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, from carrying out their duties.
This clarification comes in response to misleading reports that suggested the court had granted an injunction against the party’s leadership. In a press statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the party detailed the actual proceedings from the court hearing on September 4, 2025, presided over by Hon. Justice Emeka Nwite.
Contrary to the false publications, the court did not grant the ex-parte application filed by Hon. Nafiu Bala Gombe. Instead, it issued four specific orders. The party’s statement quoted the ruling verbatim, listing the orders as:
- “That the Plaintiff/Applicant’s application dated and filed on September 2, 2025, is refused.”
- “That the Plaintiff/Applicant is hereby directed to put the Defendants on notice.”
- “That the Defendants/Respondents are ordered to appear before this Honourable Court to show cause why the application should not be granted.”
- “That the case is adjourned to September 15, 2025, for the Defendants/Respondents to show cause.”
The ADC accused “desperate political jobbers” of spreading misinformation, stating that this was their “last resort” after failing to prevent the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from acknowledging the legitimate change in the party’s leadership.
The party did not mince words in its criticism, alleging that “agents of destabilisation will stop at nothing, including misrepresenting court rulings, in their desperate efforts to sow confusion and further undermine opposition parties.”
In its closing remarks, the ADC urged the media and the public to exercise vigilance and verify information before dissemination. It emphasized the importance of resisting the spread of falsehoods, which it described as “characteristic of the ruling party and their agents.”
The matter has been adjourned, and the party’s leadership is expected to appear in court on September 15 to formally respond to the allegations.
