Former Chairman of the Pension Reform Task Team, Dr. Abdulrasheed Maina, collapsed on Tuesday evening in Abuja while attempting to enter his office complex.
He was subsequently rushed to a private hospital in the capital for urgent treatment.
The incident was confirmed in a press release dated Tuesday, 3 February 2026, issued by his media assistant, Emmanuel Umahi Ekwe, Esq.
According to the statement, the collapse followed complications from an untreated knee injury, which caused Dr. Maina to lose his balance while climbing a staircase. He reportedly fell during the episode, striking his head on the steps.
Personnel at the scene provided immediate first aid before he was transported to a private medical facility in the Federal Capital Territory. He is currently under close observation and receiving medical care.
A preliminary assessment by attending physicians indicated that an air ambulance evacuation may be arranged if his condition does not stabilize promptly.
“Dr. Maina is currently receiving close medical care and remains under observation, while his family and medical team are closely monitoring his progress,” the release stated.
The family has appealed for public understanding, prayers, and privacy during this period. Further updates will be provided as the situation develops.
