In a landmark move for the nation’s downstream oil sector, A.A. Rano Nigeria Limited has officially launched Nigeria’s first network of fully automated and unmanned 24-hour fuel stations.
This pioneering initiative, developed in partnership with indigenous technology firm Petrosoft Limited, marks a significant shift towards digitization and enhanced efficiency in fuel retail.
The agreement will see Petrosoft deploy its proprietary SmartPump technology and automated station management systems across A.A. Rano’s extensive network of more than 200 retail outlets nationwide.
The first of these next-generation stations is set to begin operations within January 2026.
Customers will be able to drive up to a SmartPump at any hour, refuel their vehicles, and complete their transactions entirely without human intervention. The system is built around seamless contactless digital payments, ensuring a swift and secure process from start to finish.
Addressing Core Industry Challenges
According to A.A. Rano, the technology is strategically designed to tackle long-standing issues in the market:
ยท Enhanced Transparency: Customers are assured they receive the exact volume of fuel they pay for.
ยท Reduced Operational Losses: Automation minimizes discrepancies and improves inventory management.
ยท Unmatched Convenience: 24/7 service provides flexibility and reduces waiting times.
Petrosoft CEO, Dr. Joshua Denila, emphasized the project’s significance as a triumph of local solutions for local challenges. “Our systems are developed locally and built to international standards,” Denila stated. “They are designed to improve efficiency from single stations to large fueling depots, proving that Nigerian technology can effectively revolutionize our own markets.”
The rollout positions A.A. Rano, founded by oil magnate Alhaji Auwalu Abdullahi Rano, at the forefront of a digital transformation in Nigerian fuel retail, setting a new benchmark for service, reliability, and technological integration in the industry.
