Operatives of the Bauchi State Police Command have arrested a 70 year old man, identified as Hamza Yahaya, for the alleged rape of a 10-year-old girl in the Magama Gumau area of Toro Local Government Area (LGA).
The arrest was confirmed in a press release issued on Saturday, May 16, 2026, by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib.
According to the police, the victim’s 40-year-old father reported the incident on the evening of May 15. He alleged that earlier that day, at approximately 4:00 PM, the suspect lured his daughter to a hideout in the community and had unlawful sexual intercourse with her.
Following the report, detectives from the Toro Police Division were immediately dispatched to the scene and apprehended the suspect.
While Yahaya denied the specific allegation regarding the May 15 incident, police state that he voluntarily confessed to sexually assaulting the 10-year-old victim on three previous occasions at the same location.
According to the statement, both the minor and the suspect were transported to the General Hospital in Toro for comprehensive medical examinations and treatment.
The suspect has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Bauchi for advanced investigation and impending prosecution.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu… condemned the heinous act and reiterated the Command’s zero-tolerance stance on crimes against children. He assured the public that the case would be pursued diligently to ensure justice is served.”
The statement by urged parents, guardians, and local community members to remain vigilant and to promptly report any suspicious activities concerning the safety and welfare of children in their neighborhood.
