Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has expressed robust confidence about the 2027 governorship election, declaring it will be an easier contest for him than his 2023 victory, thanks to his administration’s tangible achievements.
Speaking at the 2025 Aro Day celebration in Arochukwu Local Government Area, Otti told supporters and citizens that while his previous campaign was based on promises, his re-election bid will be powered by a visible track record.
“Just like it happened in 2023, 2027 will even be smoother, I can assure you. Why am I so confident? I’m confident because in 2023, we were selling promises, but now there are one or two things we can point to,” the governor stated.
Otti suggested that opponents were already under unnecessary pressure, noting, “2027 is still far away, but a lot of people have started killing themselves before 2027 comes.”
He emphasised that his focus remains on fulfilling his four-year mandate rather than premature electioneering. “We are not worried about 2027 because we have a mandate to deliver to our people in four years. We’ve done 30 months, so we still have a long way to go,” he added.
His confidence was echoed by a prominent external voice, the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, who was also in attendance. Sanusi publicly commended Otti’s performance, stating that the governor’s work has attracted recognition beyond the state and the country.
“I like to congratulate Dr. Otti for all the work he has done in Abia… But you will want to know that even outside Abia and outside Nigeria, everyone has taken note of the great transformation of the last two years,” the former Central Bank Governor said. Sanusi, who serves on Otti’s International Economic Advisory Council, added, “I will like to congratulate Governor Otti for his work and to pray that he will continue to deliver for the people.”
