Barring a last minute political change, the withdrawals of Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Dr. George Kelly from the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primaries has paved the way for Hon. Kingsley Chinda to emerge as the APC consensus candidate.
Dr George-Kelly, a known ally of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has also officially withdrawn after Fubara from the contest ahead of the party’s primary election.
George Kelly’s sudden exit has cleared the way for an emerging political realignments and power dynamics in the APC structure, where prominent stakeholders are increasingly pulling the strings for a consensus arrangements.
In a statement personally signed and released on Wednesday, George-Kelly said his decision followed wide consultations with his political supporters and stakeholders after a high-level meeting convened by the national leadership of the party.
If the consensus arrangement is finally achieved, Wike, according to political watchers, has successfully imposed Hon. Kingsley Chinda, another Rivers man of Ikwerre extraction on the state as governor come 2027 , after Rotimi Amachi and Wike’s 16 solid years of consolidated governorship in the oil-rich state.
