A new generation of police officers has joined the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) as 1,187 cadets of Regular Course 7 graduated and were formally commissioned as Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs) at a colourful Passing Out Parade (POP) held on Saturday, November 29, 2025, at the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State.
The event marked the culmination of five years of intensive academic and professional training, combining rigorous policing education with university-level studies. Each cadet not only earned a commission but also graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in their chosen discipline — a model that reflects the Nigeria Police Academy’s dual mandate of producing officers with sound academic grounding and strategic policing competence.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, who is also the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, commissioned the graduating officers. He was represented at the ceremony by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, CON. In his address, the President congratulated the cadets for their resilience and discipline, describing their graduation as a milestone achievement not only for the Academy but for Nigeria’s broader security architecture.
President Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ongoing police reforms, enhanced operational capacity, and the welfare of personnel. He emphasized that modern policing requires professionalism, respect for human rights, and an unwavering dedication to national service. The new officers, he noted, must embody these values as they step into their roles across the country.
The ceremony attracted an impressive gathering of dignitaries from within and outside Nigeria. Among the international guests was Shanta Emily Knowles, Head of the Royal Bahamas Police Force. Also in attendance were the Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf; representatives of the Chief of Defence Staff and Service Chiefs; members of the National Assembly; heads of sister security agencies; senior serving and retired police officers; the Provost and academic faculty of the Nigeria Police Academy; traditional and religious leaders; as well as parents and well-wishers who witnessed the historic moment.
Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, addressed the new officers with a message of encouragement and responsibility. He commended their resilience throughout the rigorous five-year training programme, noting that the Nigeria Police Force requires officers who combine character, discipline, and professional competence.
The IGP urged them to remain committed to protecting lives and property, maintaining law and order, and strengthening public trust in the nation’s primary law enforcement institution. He reminded the graduates that their commission as ASPs is both an honour and a call to service at a time when Nigeria faces evolving security challenges.
The Passing Out Parade included ceremonial drills, presentation of awards to outstanding cadets, and a display of the Academy’s disciplined regimental culture. The event symbolised the Nigeria Police Force’s continuous effort to build a modern, well-educated, and globally competitive policing workforce.
In a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, anipr, mipra, the Nigeria Police Force expressed its resolve to sustain the production of highly trained and educated officers capable of responding to contemporary security realities.
The statement further reassured Nigerians that the newly commissioned ASPs would strengthen the manpower and professional capacity of the Force in its mission to ensure public safety, uphold the rule of law, and advance national security.
