Nigerian Army troops have arrested three suspected terrorist logistics couriers and seized over 300 rounds of ammunition in two separate operations in Kogi State, cracking a smuggling network that used modified motorcycles and hidden vehicle compartments to move weapons supplies.
The first arrest came on March 29, when soldiers on patrol along the JamataโOwara Road stopped a motorcycle rider. A search revealed the bike had been specially modified with a concealed compartment designed to hide ammunition. The suspect, later identified as Mathew Elisha โ also known as Nasara โ was already on security watchlists as a high-profile terrorist ammunition courier, according to military sources.
Then on April 20, acting on fresh intelligence, troops set up a snap checkpoint on the ObajanaโKabba Road. They stopped a Toyota bus traveling from Makurdi to Obajana. Inside, two men โ Mallam Zubairu Abubakar and Adamu Abubakar Abdullahi โ were taken into custody.
Behind the driver’s seat, soldiers found a sack containing 314 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition and three AK-47 magazines. Authorities believe the ammunition was intended to resupple terrorist networks that had previously suffered disruptions.
Mobile phones, a driver’s license, a national ID slip, and an identity card were also recovered from the suspects.
All three men have been handed over to military intelligence for further investigation. Army officials said the operations demonstrate ongoing efforts to cut off terrorist supply routes in the region.
