…As Senate adjourns for two months
By James Adamu
The Senate adjourned plenary on Thursday for two months, for the start of its annual recess that will last till September 23.
Senators normally use the period to engage in a series of activities, including interactions with constituents and overseas trips.
However, President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, said this year’s recess would not all be about rest as he charged his colleagues to carry out oversight even while on break.
Akpabio stated, “It is only the plenary that we have adjourned. I expect you to still carry out all other committee activities, investigative hearings and others.
“This is the time to go on that road inspection and write all your reports.”
Akpabio said he expected all the committees to submit their reports to the floor upon their return from the recess.
“Do all your reports and make them available when you return”, he added.
Findings by Spear News showed that one key issue would be the level of implementation of the 2024 budget by Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), which is still running side-by-side the N54.99trillion 2025 budget signed into law by President Bola Tinubu in February.
The total budget for 2024 was N34trn, with a capital component of N13.1trn.
Tinubu had between December 2024 and June 2025, twice requested the extension of the capital component of the 2024 budget, both requests being graciously granted by the National Assembly.
