Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has declared that the peaceful conduct of the recent FCT council elections has exposed the shallow tactics of politicians who rely on gimmicks to win votes.
The minister, who took a swipe at the opposition on Sunday evening, asserted that the election results serve as clear proof that residents can no longer be swayed by what he described as staged displays of populism.
“This election has indeed shown that Nigerians now know the ruling party and the real opposition party,” Wike said in a statement signed by his media aide, Lere Olayinka. “Also, the election has further exposed the hypocrisy of people who go about buying corn and groundnuts from roadside sellers for the purpose of a campaign just to deceive Nigerians.”
The Minister did not mince words as he addressed the opposition’s campaign strategies. “Yesterday, the residents of FCT demonstrated that they cannot be deceived by emergency democrats, who have chosen not to see anything good in our country and its government.”
Wike framed the election outcome as a direct reflection of President Bola Tinubu’s leadership, suggesting that the so-called “Renewed Hope Agenda” has resonated with the electorate far more effectively than the opposition’s roadside antics.
“I thank Mr President for the development he has brought to the FCT. This election is a reflection of the President’s vision and leadership, and a testimony that the Renewed Hope Agenda has brought optimism and confidence to the people of the FCT,” he stated.
Beyond his critique of the opposition, the Minister extended his appreciation to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies for ensuring a process he described as free, fair, and credible.
He urged the newly elected officials to serve with humility and dedication, while commending FCT residents for turning out in large numbers. “Your participation affirms your trust in our democracy,” Wike concluded, pledging that the administration would continue to deliver dividends of democracy in line with the President’s agenda.
