The African Democratic Congress has announced it is ready for full political engagement ahead of the 2027 general elections, following official recognition of its new leadership by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
INEC updated its official website on Wednesday to list Senator David Mark as the partyโs National Chairman and former Osun State governor, Rauf Aregbesola, as National Secretary.
The commission also confirmed other key executive positions of the party, including Dr. Ibrahim Mani as National Treasurer, Akibu Dalhatu as National Financial Secretary, and Prof. Oserheimen Aigberaodion Osunbor as National Legal Adviser.
This restructuring followed the voluntary resignation of the former chairman, Ralph Nwosu, and other officers last July.
Reacting to the development, the ADCโs National Publicity Secretary, Bola Abdullahi, commended INEC for its decision. โI would say itโs largely administrative rather than political. We believe it was about documentation. If INEC wanted to play games, they could have used the opportunity, but instead they worked with us to ensure the right thing was done. For that, we commend them for standing on the right side of history and upholding democracy,โ Abdullahi said.
He noted that the recognition has ended a period of uncertainty and allowed the party to stabilise. โSo we are happy. We can now move forward. With this, our members and even prospective members across the country can now be more confident that the party is stabilising. You will now see a lot more activities coming from across the states,โ he added.
Abdullahi confirmed that the party will now resume full operations, including membership registration and issuance of cards. โYou will now see people joining the party, membership registration resuming, and membership cards being issued.
All of the activities that had been put on hold because of the uncertainty will now commence. The party is stable, and in the coming weeks you will see all of that happening,โ he stated.
The ADC now aims to focus on nationwide mobilisation and rebuilding confidence among its members and supporters ahead of the next general elections.
