During a visit to Lagos, the American artist challenges widespread safety perceptions, citing gang violence and urging people to “just pull, bro.”
American rapper and streamer Darryl Dwayne Granberry Jr., known as DDG, has sparked debate after publicly stating that Nigeria is safer than the United States.
The comment was made in a video from his Lagos trip, shared online on Thursday, where he directly addressed common stereotypes about Nigeria’s security.
“I think America is the most dangerous country there is, to be honest. I don’t think Nigeria is as dangerous as America, nowhere near,” DDG asserted.
He contrasted the prevalence of gun violence and gang-related shootings in the U.S. with his experience in Nigeria. “You get robbed out here for sure, but people aren’t getting shot like that — the way it happens in America,” he explained.
Encouraging others to visit, the rapper added, “So if anybody is thinking about coming out here, just pull, bro.”
This perspective aligns with sentiments DDG expressed nearly a year ago, when he hinted at possibly leaving the U.S. In a previous social media post, he wrote, “America lowkey not it no more ngl.. might have to move to London or Lagos.”
