The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faction loyal to Senator Ahmed Turaki has issued a stern warning against any attempted forceful occupation of its National Secretariat, accusing the Nyesom Wike bloc of the party of plotting an illegal takeover in connivance with security forces.
This came after an accusation yesterday that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had recognised the group, and a threat to challenge the commission’s decision in court.
In a press statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong, mnipr, the party declared it would deploy “all legal means” to defend its property, placing sole responsibility for any resulting injury or damage on what it termed “the aggressors and their security collaborators.”
The statement revealed that the party’s leadership has written to the Inspector General of Police and the Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, formally notifying them of the alleged plot.
The core of the PDP’s argument rests on pending litigation concerning the secretariat’s ownership.
“We have reminded them that the secretariat is still a res before the Federal High Court, Abuja, and the Court of Appeal,” the statement read. It emphasized that the property remains subject to ongoing cases, including one before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik—a case notably instituted by the same expelled members now accused of planning a takeover.
The party framed any such attempt as “a resort to self-help and an affront to the time-tested principle of law,” arguing that parties who have submitted to the court’s jurisdiction must not act in a manner that would “render nugatory, the powers of the Court.”
In a clear warning to the police, the statement noted that the force is “a party on record in the said matter.” It asserted that “any action taken to grant access to anybody, pending the determination of the suit, is a contempt of the court.”
