In a significant blow to terrorist operations in the North-East, troops of Operation Hadin Kai have uncovered a sophisticated underground logistics storage facility operated by Boko Haram, stocked with medical supplies, fuel, and other critical materials.
The discovery was made on Sunday, January 18, 2026, during a series of coordinated, intelligence-led offensives under Operation Desert Sanity. Troops overran several terrorist enclaves in the Timbuktu Triangle area of Borno State, specifically in Chilaria, Garin Faruk, and Abirma.
According to a statement on Monday by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force North-East, Operation Hadin Kai, Lt. Col. Uba Sani, the operation resulted in the destruction of multiple terrorist camps and the recovery of vital assets.
“The operation, carried out under Operation Desert Sanity, significantly degraded the logistical and operational capabilities of Boko Haram and ISWAP elements operating in the axis,” Sani stated.
Inside the Underground Cache
The items recovered from the subterranean hideout and surrounding camps include:
· A large underground logistics storage facility.
· A petroleum, oil, and lubricant (POL) dump.
· Medical supplies in large quantities.
· Several bags of grains.
· A pick-up truck.
· Baofeng radios and phones.
· Five AK-47 magazines.
· Ammunition (7.62 × 39mm special and 7.62mm NATO belted).
· Boko Haram/ISWAP flags.
· Diesel-powered grinding machines.
Sani emphasised that these recoveries “further degraded the operational and logistical capacity of the terrorists.”
Troops Repel Coordinated Drone Attacks
The statement revealed that the advancing troops faced determined resistance, repelling multiple armed drone attacks launched by the terrorists around midday and again in the evening.
“Despite this, the troops maintained momentum and continued the offensives… forcing the terrorists to withdraw and reaffirming the troops’ dominance of the area,” Sani said.
The operation was supported by the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai, which provided persistent Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) coverage, enabling real-time tracking and enhancing the precision of ground operations.
High Morale, Sustained Vigilance
Lt. Col. Sani reported that despite sustained engagements, troop morale remains high and fighting efficiency is being maintained.
“The general security situation in the area is assessed as calm but unpredictable, with troops remaining vigilant and at a high state of readiness,” he stated.
The military high command reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining the operations, stressing that troops remain resolute in their mission to eliminate terrorist threats, protect civilians, and restore lasting peace and stability to the North-East.
