Troops of Operation Whirl Stroke have rescued a kidnapped woman and arrested suspected criminals during a series of intelligence-led clearance operations carried out across parts of Benue State on March 24, 2026.
The operations, conducted in multiple locations, targeted criminal hideouts and armed groups operating within vulnerable communities, as part of ongoing efforts to restore security in the state.
According to military authorities, troops acting on credible intelligence regarding the activities of suspected armed herders moved into Mbapa and Mbabuande communities in Gwer West Local Government Area. The troops, deployed from Bilawa-Jor and Naka under Sector 1, carried out a coordinated search operation upon arrival and discovered an abandoned hideout believed to have been used by criminal elements.
Further clearance operations extended across River Akpako, leading to the arrest of two suspects, who are currently in custody undergoing investigation.
In a related operation on the same day, troops responded to reports of kidnapping activities at Tse-Ubena village in Yooyo Council Ward of Katsina-Ala Local Government Area. Security personnel deployed from Tor-Donga, working alongside operatives of the Benue State Civil Protection Guard, conducted a targeted raid on a suspected hideout linked to the kidnappers.
During the operation, a 28-year-old woman identified as Mrs Member Ityavber was successfully rescued. She has since been reunited with her family after receiving necessary care and undergoing a debrief by security operatives.
Authorities disclosed that efforts are ongoing to track down and apprehend other members of the criminal syndicate responsible for the abduction.
The Force Commander of Operation Whirl Stroke, Major General Moses Gara, commended the troops for their swift response and professionalism, noting that the success of the operations reflects the effectiveness of intelligence-driven strategies. He reaffirmed the commitment of the Joint Task Force to sustaining pressure on criminal elements and ensuring a safe environment, particularly as communities prepare for the farming season.
The latest operations underscore ongoing efforts by security forces to dismantle criminal networks and address insecurity in Benue State, where attacks by armed groups and kidnappings have remained a major concern for residents.
