Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), operating under Operation HADIN KAI, have successfully repelled coordinated terrorist attacks on several military locations across Borno State.
The assaults targeted troops’ positions in Konduga, Marte, Jakana, and Mainok between about 10:30 p.m. and 3:00 a.m. on Friday, according to a statement issued by the Media Information Officer of Operation HADIN KAI, Lt.-Col. Sani Uba.
Uba said the terrorists made desperate attempts to overrun the military positions but were met with stiff resistance from alert troops who held their ground despite the intensity of the attacks.
He explained that the troops mounted a coordinated response involving simultaneous flanking manoeuvres supported by reinforcement teams drawn from Sectors 1 and 2, forcing the attackers into disorganised withdrawals. In some instances where parts of the defensive perimeter were briefly breached, troops swiftly launched counterattacks and regained full control of their positions.
During the fierce engagements, several insurgent leaders, including key commanders known as “Amirs,” were neutralised, while many other fighters were eliminated in the counter-offensive.
The military also disclosed that troops worked closely with the air component of the operation, which conducted precision airstrikes overnight on fleeing terrorist elements and identified hostile positions. The strikes reportedly neutralised scores of insurgents and further degraded their fighting capability.
Although some structures within the affected military locations were damaged during the heavy fighting, the army confirmed that all the bases remained firmly under the control of troops.
Uba added that ground forces are currently carrying out exploitation operations across the affected areas, recovering the bodies of terrorists, weapons, and other combat equipment abandoned during the clashes.
However, the military confirmed casualties among its ranks, noting that some soldiers paid the supreme price in the line of duty, including a senior officer who died while leading his troops from the frontline.
The spokesman described their sacrifice as a reflection of the unwavering commitment of the Nigerian Armed Forces to defending the country and protecting civilians.
He further stated that the failed attacks demonstrate the growing desperation of terrorist groups facing sustained operational pressure across the North-East theatre.
Operation HADIN KAI reaffirmed that it remains firmly in control of the battlespace and will continue offensive operations to eliminate terrorist threats in the region.
