In a targeted operation aimed at curbing violence, troops of the Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE (JTF OPEP) have raided the hideout of a suspected gunrunner in Plateau State, recovering an AK-47 rifle and other equipment.
The raid, conducted under the ongoing Operation PEACE SHIELD, was carried out on Wednesday, 3 December 2025, by troops of Sector 2 deployed in the Gashish area.
Acting on credible intelligence regarding the suspect’s activities, the military force moved into Ranbiri Village, Kafi Abu, in the Barkin Ladi Local Government Area. While the primary suspect managed to evade capture by fleeing the location before the troops’ arrival, a thorough search of the hideout yielded significant results.
Recovered items include one AK-47 rifle, one loaded magazine, and several communication equipment. The military stated that all recovered items are now in safe custody.
“Troops of Operation ENDURING PEACE remain highly motivated and will continue to employ all legitimate means to protect innocent civilians while dismantling the supply chains of criminal elements within the joint operations area,” said Major Samson Nantip Zhakom, the Media Information Officer for the operation.
Efforts to track and apprehend the fleeing gunrunner are ongoing. The operation underscores the military’s sustained campaign to disrupt the activities of non-state actors and armed criminal elements in the region.
