Troops of Sector 1, Joint Task Force North West Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have neutralized two suspected bandits and recovered rustled livestock in a series of coordinated operations across Kaduna State, security sources confirmed.
The sustained offensives, conducted between June 20 and 21, 2026, also led to the apprehension of several suspects, recovery of weapons, and restoration of public order in communities rocked by criminal activities.
According to security sources, troops responded to credible intelligence on cattle rustling in a Kaduna community on June 20. Upon arrival, they made contact with the fleeing criminals and engaged them in a firefight. Two suspected bandits were neutralized during the exchange, while weapons, ammunition, and rustled livestock were recovered from the scene. However, a civilian lost his life during the incident as a result of the bandits’ actions, sources said.
In a separate operation on the same day, troops on night patrol intercepted two suspected bandits. A thorough search revealed incriminating digital materials linking the suspects to terrorist and bandit networks. The suspects are currently in custody and undergoing interrogation, according to intelligence sources familiar with the investigation.
On June 21, troops on a fighting patrol encountered armed criminals who retreated into the bush under pressure. Maintaining aggressive pursuit, the soldiers apprehended two suspected bandit scouts and recovered motorcycles and communication devices containing incriminating evidence. Preliminary findings indicate the suspects were involved in criminal activities, though investigations are ongoing, a military source told reporters.
Also on June 21, troops responded to a civil disturbance at Mararraba community following the mob killing of a female suspect accused of child trafficking. The violent crowd subsequently attempted to attack public infrastructure and obstruct a major highway. Security forces arrived promptly, dispersed the mob, and secured critical facilities while ensuring uninterrupted movement of commuters. A visible military presence has been maintained to prevent any further breakdown of public order, residents confirmed.
A senior military commander, speaking on condition of anonymity, praised the troops for their vigilance and discipline, noting that the recent successes reflect the military’s resolve to pursue criminals wherever they operate. “The pressure will not relent,” the commander said. “These operations will be sustained until criminal networks are completely degraded.”
Residents of affected communities have expressed relief at the military’s intervention, with many calling for continued patrols to prevent bandits from regrouping.
