Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have recovered 94 rustled livestock and rescued two kidnapped victims in separate operations across Kaduna and Kano States on August 25 and 26, 2026.
The troops also repelled an ambush attempt by terrorists during a clearance operation in Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Task Force Media Information Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, troops of Sector 1 encountered terrorists who attempted to ambush them during the clearance operation. The troops responded with superior firepower, forcing the terrorists to flee. One motorcycle abandoned by the attackers was recovered.
In a separate incident on the same day, troops responded to a distress call on the abduction of three civilians and rustling of livestock around Hayin Babangida in Igabi Local Government Area, Kaduna State. Troops tracked and engaged the terrorists, successfully rescuing two female victims who were later reunited with their families. The third victim, a male, was found with a gunshot wound and died while being evacuated for medical attention.
In Kano State, troops responded to reports of terrorist activity in Gwarzo Local Government Area on August 25, where livestock had been rustled. Troops pursued the terrorists and made contact with them. Overwhelmed by superior firepower, the terrorists fled and abandoned the rustled livestock. Further exploitation of the area on August 26 led to the recovery of additional livestock, bringing the total to 94—comprising 57 cows and 37 sheep.
The recovered livestock were handed over to their owners in the presence of representatives of security agencies and local government authorities.
Danja said the operations demonstrate the Task Force’s resolve to sustain pressure on terrorist elements while protecting lives and livelihoods across the joint operations area. He added that the military would continue intelligence-driven operations, aggressive patrols, and rapid response to threats against communities.
He commended members of the public for their support and urged residents to remain vigilant and provide timely information on suspicious activities to security forces.
