Troops of Operation HADIN KAI under the Joint Task Force have arrested a suspected informant linked to the Islamic State West Africa Province and Boko Haram terrorists in Gombi Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
The suspect, identified as Abdullahi Umar, 25, a native of Gwoza in Borno State, was apprehended on March 23 following credible intelligence indicating the presence of insurgent elements within the 232 Battalion’s Area of Responsibility.
Security sources disclosed that the operation was carried out in collaboration with Civilian Hunters and members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria, highlighting ongoing synergy between the military and local security networks in counterterrorism efforts across the North-East.
Preliminary findings indicate that the suspect was allegedly assigned to carry out reconnaissance missions along critical routes leading to the 232 Battalion’s general area, including military installations. His task, according to investigators, was to identify possible entry points that could be exploited for future attacks by insurgent groups.
During interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed to participating in the recent attack on troops in Ngoshe, further linking him to ongoing insurgent activities in the region.
Military authorities confirmed that the suspect remains in custody as investigations continue, with further actions to be taken in line with operational and legal procedures.
