Troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have struck a major blow against terrorism in Adamawa State, arresting key facilitators of a recent suicide bombing and intercepting a large cache of smuggled fuel intended for terrorist use.
The operations, which took place on January 4th and 5th, 2026, are part of the military’s intensified crackdown following the deadly suicide bombing at the Gamboru Market Mosque.
The most critical breakthrough occurred in the early hours of January 5th, when OPHK troops, acting on sustained surveillance, executed a coordinated cordon-and-search operation in the Yan Lemo area of Mubi South Local Government Area. The raid resulted in the apprehension of eight suspects.
Among those captured were two principal suspects identified as key facilitators within the suicide bombing network. During identification procedures, an already detained suspect positively identified the duo as the suppliers of materials used in preparing the Improvised Explosive Device (IED) for the market attack.
A search of their residence yielded cash, mobile phones, identification documents, ATM cards, jewellery, and other personal effects, all now subject to forensic analysis. Additional occupants of the residence were also linked to the terrorist cell. All suspects are currently in military custody undergoing detailed interrogation to gather further intelligence.
In a related development aimed at crippling terrorist logistics, OPHK troops on January 4th intercepted a major consignment of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) in Mayo Nguli, Maiha Local Government Area. The troops seized 45 jerrycans, containing approximately 1,125 litres of fuel, suspected to have been smuggled for terrorist activities. The suppliers abandoned the products and fled upon sighting the approaching troops.
The operation was concluded without incident or casualties. The intercepted fuel is now in military custody pending further action.
In a statement signed by Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, Media Information Officer for the Joint Task Force, Headquarters OPHK stated that these successes “underscore OPHKâs unwavering resolve to dismantle terrorist networks, disrupt logistics and supply chains, prevent future attacks, and bring all perpetrators and collaborators of terrorism to justice.”
The statement further urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue cooperating with security agencies, emphasizing that public support remains critical to sustaining security across the North East region.
All suspects are expected to be transferred to the appropriate agencies for continued investigation and prosecution following the military’s preliminary interrogations.
