…Says Modern Infrastructure Key to Nigeria’s Prosperity

President Bola Tinubu has flagged off the construction of the 34km dual carriage access road to the Second Niger Bridge.
Speaking at the event at Asaba, Delta State on Monday, Tinubu said his administration is determined to fix Nigeria’s critical infrastructure. He added that the project would ease movement and boost trade across the country.
The President, represented by Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, described the road as a major step in improving connectivity between the South-East and other regions.
Tinubu said the Second Niger Bridge, opened in December 2022, was a landmark project. “It links two of Nigeria’s busiest highways—Asaba-Benin and Onitsha-Enugu,” he added.
He noted that modern infrastructure drives economic growth, creates jobs, and improves living standards. “We cannot grow without roads, rail, and water transport networks,” Tinubu said.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda. “The Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road and other key projects show our resolve,” he added.
The President commended the governments of Delta and Anambra States for their support. He urged motorists to cooperate with contractors during construction, assuring that the work would meet global standards.
Governor Oborevwori, in his remarks, thanked President Tinubu. He praised the President’s patriotic drive and focus on national development.
“Only yesterday, the Benin-Asaba Expressway project was flagged off. Today, it’s the Second Niger Bridge access road. Both roads are vital for commerce,” the Governor said.
He prayed for Tinubu’s continued wisdom to deliver on his promises.
Minister of Works, David Umahi, also praised Governor Oborevwori for supporting the federal government. He said Delta’s interventions on federal roads were commendable.
“Delta is a massive construction site. The three flyovers in Warri are impressive. You are truly progressive,” Umahi said.
Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Works, Engr Olufunsho Adebiyi, explained that the road would connect several Delta communities to the bridge.
He described the project as vital to linking the South-South and South-East regions, boosting trade and easing traffic.
“This road will drive development and strengthen regional ties,” he said.
