President Bola Tinubu this week ordered Vice President Kashim Shettima to abruptly terminate his diplomatic mission in Addis Ababa and fly straight to London, where former President Muhammadu Buhari is understood to be undergoing medical treatment at a private hospital.
According to a report by THISDAY, it was learnt that upon receiving reports of Buhari’s hospitalization, Tinubu, who was preparing for his own trip to St. Lucia, instructed Shettima to personally assess the former leader’s condition and provide a full briefing.
Spear News reports that Buhari, 81, had fallen ill and was undergoing medical care. This came after his former Special Assistant on Digital Communications, Bashir Ahmad, confirmed the former president’s health status, dismissing claims of critical condition and stating instead that he was ‘stable and responding well to treatment.'”
In a post on X, Ahmad wrote: โIn light of the recent media reports suggesting that former President Muhammadu Buhari is critically ill and has been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), we find it necessary to set the record straight.
โIt is true that former President Buhari is unwell and is currently receiving medical attention. However, contrary to the exaggerated claims circulating in the media, he is stable and responding well to treatment, and we are optimistic about his full recovery.
โWe appreciate the outpouring of prayers and goodwill from his supporters and well-wishers around the world. We continue to pray for his complete and speedy recovery.โ
