President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has named Shamsedeen Babatunde Ogunjimi as the new Accountant General of the Federation.
The appointment, announced today in a Statehouse press release, follows a rigorous and competitive selection process designed to identify the most qualified candidate for the role.
Ogunjimi, 57, will assume office on March 7, 2025, succeeding the outgoing Accountant General, Oluwatoyin Madehin, who is set to retire on the same day.
Ogunjimi was first identified as Madehin’s successor in December 2024 and was subsequently chosen by a selection committee after a thorough evaluation process.
The selection process, which involved Directors of Accounts from the Federal Civil Service, was conducted in three stages: a written assessment, an ICT proficiency test, and oral interviews. This multi-tiered approach highlights President Tinubu’s emphasis on competence, excellence, and integrity in filling key public service positions.
A seasoned accountant with over three decades of experience, Ogunjimi holds a Bachelor of Science in Accountancy from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (1990) and a Master’s degree in Accounting and Finance from the University of Lagos. He is also a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN).
In the statement, President Tinubu congratulated Ogunjimi on his appointment and urged him to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and dedication in service to the nation.
“This appointment reflects our administration’s resolve to ensure that only the most qualified and competent individuals are entrusted with the responsibility of managing Nigeria’s financial resources,” the President said.
