President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Mr Abel Olumuyiwa Enitan as the new Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, with effect from August 27, 2026.
The appointment was announced on Wednesday in a State House press release signed by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
Mr Enitan, who hails from Osun State, will take over from Mrs Didi Esther Walson-Jack, who is set to retire from the Federal Civil Service upon reaching the statutory retirement age of 60.
A Career Civil Servant
Enitan is currently the most senior Permanent Secretary in the Federal Civil Service, having served in that capacity for seven years and seven months. His career has seen him hold the position of Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Police Affairs, the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, and the Office of the Vice President. He is presently the Permanent Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Education.
He holds a B.Sc. in Finance and Banking from the University of Lagos (1988) and an M.Sc. in Public Policy Analysis from Nasarawa State University, Lafia (2015). He attended Ajibode Grammar School, Ibadan, and the College of Arts and Science, Ile-Ife, for his secondary education. He was born on December 12, 1966.
Presidential Charge
President Tinubu expressed profound appreciation to the outgoing Head of Service, Mrs Walson-Jack, for her distinguished service, acknowledging the reforms, impact, and innovations witnessed in the Civil Service during her tenure. He wished her a fulfilling life after service and conveyed the nation’s gratitude for her years of dedicated public service.
The President charged the incoming Head of the Civil Service to consolidate on the ongoing reforms and innovations, deepen professionalism and efficiency across the service, and build a more effective and responsive Civil Service capable of delivering on the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
President Tinubu further urged Mr Enitan to lead a Civil Service that is professional, merit-driven, accountable, innovative, and responsive to the needs and aspirations of Nigerians.
